13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK. Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income.
The Sandbach Food Bank, which is run by Unity Methodist Church at Wesley Avenue, with the involvement of people from other churches, too, provides emergency food and support.
For more information please visit the Unity Methodist Church website. and Facebook page.
The food bank does not deal directly with the people who need to use it; they are referred by an agency that has the specialist knowledge and skills to determine whether the need is there and can also provide other support relevant to the individual’s circumstances.
If you are aware of anyone in need of a food parcel, or if someone approaches you about getting a food parcel they should be referred on to one of these agencies.
A full list of agencies is available there, but a few of the main ones are listed here for your information: The Families Centre; The Children's Centre; Plus Dane; Cheshire East Social Services; Cheshire East (Benefits) Emergencies team; Cheshire East CAB; Making Space; and Arch.
You can contact the Food Bank by email (only) at sandbachfoodbank@gmail.com
To help the Food Bank's work donations of food and other items are welcome.
Non-perishable food items and toiletries can be donated at The Wesley Centre (For opening times click here or here); The Nationwide Building Society; or the Co-op shop on The Hill. Please make sure all items are well within their best before date.
