About SBC

Origins and Overview

In 1989, a Sandbach based housegroup from West Street Baptist Church in Crewe, had a vision to see God work through them in Sandbach. In 1990 this group, with the oversight of West Street, planted a brand new church here.

Our congregation is over 60 strong, made up of local families and individuals. As a church, we run a variety of activities to bring Jesus to local children, adults, families and elderly people in the town. In 2008 we opened Oasis - a coffee shop and meeting place in Green Street, Sandbach - to further these activities.

Our vision is to help to bring others to a knowledge of, and a personal relationship with, the Lord Jesus Christ, through our witness, both in words and actions. And to encourage, build up, and develop each other, in our spiritual lives, so as to be effective servants of God.

Beliefs

SBC is a Christian, Baptist Church. The main differences between Baptists and some other Christian denominations are...

Baptism of believers
The Bible says “turn away from your sins and be baptised”. Baptists therefore only baptise people who have turned away from their sins and turned towards God to start their relationship with Him. Baptism is a declaration of an existing relationship with God. (This is different to infant baptism or baptism as a means of salvation.)

Priesthood of all believers
A priest is someone who has a direct relationship with God. Baptists believe that all practising Christians have this direct relationship. Therefore no ‘middle-man’ is needed. (This is different to believing that only certain church members can act on behalf of God - for example in determining the will of God for individuals or for the church, interpreting the Bible or offering forgiveness or salvation).
